From Product Strategy to Customer Value: the January edition

In January 2026, Pinnacle Product Institute welcomed Marty Cagan, Melissa Perri, Shreyas Doshi and Teresa Torres to speak with our audience as part of Product Conversations. This edition brought together perspectives on product leadership, outcome-focused strategy, product judgment and continuous discovery.

Why these perspectives belonged together

A strategy needs choices, teams equipped to act on them and a way to learn whether those choices create value. We selected these speakers to connect organisational leadership with the everyday decisions of product practitioners and the customer research needed to guide them.

Marty Cagan — Product leadership and effective teams

We invited Marty to connect product ambition with effective leadership and team design. His perspective was relevant to our audience’s questions about enabling teams to solve customer problems, strengthening product capabilities and creating an environment where good decisions can take root.

Melissa Perri — Product strategy, customer value and business growth

We invited Melissa to make the relationship between strategy and value explicit. Her perspective was relevant to practitioners seeking to align priorities, explain the purpose behind product investments and recognise when a busy delivery schedule is masking a lack of progress.

Shreyas Doshi — Product judgment, strategy and leadership

We invited Shreyas to connect strategic thinking with the decisions product leaders face in practice. His experience was relevant to an audience weighing competing opportunities, developing stronger judgment and improving the quality of leadership conversations around product work.

Teresa Torres — Continuous discovery and customer research

We invited Teresa to ground product strategy in sustained contact with customers. Her perspective was relevant to teams seeking a practical discovery habit that improves decisions throughout development, rather than treating research as an activity completed only at the beginning.

Questions to carry into your own practice

Does your team understand the customer problem behind its work? Which business outcome explains the priority? What trade-off makes the strategy meaningful? What assumption could customer research help you test next? These are Pinnacle’s editorial reflection questions, rather than quotations or a transcript of the speakers’ remarks.

Continuing Product Conversations in 2026

The January edition continued our series of conversations with product experts whose perspectives complement one another. The companion Product Expert Feature introduces the four speakers and explains why each was invited. Our continuing series connects the experience of product leaders with practical questions our audience can bring into its own work.

Thank you to our speakers
