Find the ambiguity

Teams may use the same metric name to describe different things. A completed transaction could mean a booking, payment or fulfilled service. Clarify the event behind the measure and why it represents value for participants before debating changes in performance.

Create a lightweight metric record

Document the definition, source, owner and known limitations of the measure. Explain which segments should be examined and which questions the measure cannot answer. Keep the record close to the dashboards and decisions that depend on it.

Use the definition to improve decisions

When performance changes, examine the customer journey and marketplace context rather than only the headline figure. Shared definitions make it easier for teams to compare explanations and agree a next step. Review them when the product changes so yesterday’s definition does not distort today’s choices.
